Job Description


The Underwriter reviews, conditions and underwrites mortgage loansin accordance with established policies and procedures and appropriateguidelines; examines all documentation for accuracy and completeness.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Toperform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily. Examples below:

  • Reviewand analyze the mortgage loan application to ensure eligibility, accuracy,completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines tominimize risk factors

  • Reviewall required loan data, reports, and inspections to insure the collateral isacceptable to investor, company, and  FHAguidelines

  • Responsiblefor making independent decisions regarding acceptance and risk of loansaccording to HUD, company, and investor guidelines.

  • Providesfinal approval underwriting of mortgage loans.

  • Completesall required paperwork and forms in a timely and accurate manner; preparesrequired forms

  • Signoff conditions in a timely manner set by management

  • Workwith staff and management to find solutions on escalated loans

  • Maybe requested to make recommendations for improving Internal Audit’s policiesand practices

  • Manageloans by using all functions of Encompass

  • Effectivelycommunicate underwriting decisions with processors and advisors

  • Maintainhigh level of customer service and communication with other departments

Toperform this job successfully, an individual must have the following educationand/or experience:

  • Twoto four years related experience or equivalent, DE Underwriter required

  • Musthave mortgage industry experience.

  • Thoroughworking knowledge of real estate documentation, policies, compliance, andprocedures

  • Highlevel of proficiency with mortgage loan processing and underwriting systems

  • Commitmentto excellence and high standards

  • Excellentwritten and oral communication skills

  • Strongorganizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Abilityto manage priorities and workflow

  • Versatility,flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing prioritieswith enthusiasm

  • Acuteattention to detail

  • Proficienton computer programs required for position

  • Excellentcustomer service skills

  • Provenability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Goodjudgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions

  • Abilityto effectively present information and respond to questions

  • Bilingualskills a plus
