Job Description


Asa Correspondent Specialist you will be the Operations liaison for theCorrespondent business channel. You will communicate with correspondents,vendors and internal business units regarding Conventional, FHA or VA loanssubmitted for purchase. The position will conduct due diligence and researchbased on escalations, questions, scenarios or guidance needed at any pointwithin the process. All duties will be performed in accordance with PHH’spolicies, procedures, guidelines and applicable state and federal regulations.

Job Functionsand Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individualmust be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Examples below:

  • Successfully handle 45 – 60 inboundphone calls per day focusing on basic underwriting guidelines, productrequirements, operational process, statuses, purchase of loans and conditions.
  • Develop relationships with Correspondents and Vendor(s).

  • Review of collateral, compliance, underwriting, closingdocumentation

  • Review loan decisions and conditions and identify potentialalternatives with management.

  • Provide excellent customer service within established time frames.

  • Communicate purpose of conditions needed in a clear, concisemanner to the Correspondent

  • Review and provide status of loans as needed and assist with anyprocess/system questions or direction needed. 

  • Translate underwriting guidelines with application of mitigatingfactors

  • Work with Manager regarding loan decisions and/or businessdecisions.

  • Communicate with Vendor and Correspondent Sales as needed

  • Assist with the development of process improvements.

  • Ensure productivity, quality and performance is met.

  • Utilizeon shore and off shore resources in support of operational and proceduralrequirements.

  • Ensure Compliance and stay current with laws andregulations and GSE requirements.

  • Provide well-organized information and escalationto leadership as applicable.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:

  • A minimum of two years Correspondent Operations experience, preferably in processing and underwriting (Conventional and/or Government)

  • Previous experience in a call center and/or vendor management environment preferred

  • Experience reviewing underwriting scenarios to make a preliminary decision on whether or not a loan fits our guidelines.  Able to offer solution to fix if a loan does not. 

  • Proven interpersonal skills, ability to interact with other departments and vendors in a professional manner

  • Strong underwriting and operational knowledge and skill.

  • Familiarity with Encompass and Encompass adjacent software preferred (Optimal Blue, TPO Connect)

  • Familiarity with Document Imaging.

  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment.

  • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times
