Position Summary:

The Director, Capital Markets Trading will manage aspects related to the origination, pricing, hedging and sale execution of PHHs’ origination channels, including idea generation, trading, portfolio management, modeling and analytics.  The individual will have a minimum of ten years experience and exposure to the US MBS market on the buy or sell side.  This person will be a key contributor to investment strategies through analysis and recommendations on securities, sectors and portfolio construction. 

Job Functions and Responsibilities:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Responsible for US MBS market coverage relating to both mortgage origination and servicing valuation.  Monitor and have views on MBS basis, coupon swaps, agency swaps and 30 yr/15 year relationships
  • Identify relative value opportunities within coverage areas using fundamental and technical approaches leveraging internal and external analytics
  • Make specific portfolio recommendations and monitor profit and loss, or excess return relative to benchmark, on a regular and transparent basis
  • Maintain and update the existing analytics platform further leveraging it for use in market evaluation, security selection, idea generation and the portfolio management tool. 
  • Development of presentation materials for use in conveying key elements of process and strategy
  • Preparation of written monthly reviews of U.S. market developments and portfolio performance for internal use
  • Coordinating and editing fixed income section of quarterly report to clients (“Quarterly Investment Strategy”)
  • Develop and maintain proprietary models (given sector expertise) in support of security analysis and surveillance
  • Contribute to the analysis and settlement of the whole loan trading platform
  • Responsible for policies, procedures and controls around assuring we manage the portfolio appropriately
  • Responsible for managing acquisitions that meet the strategy in the most cost-effective fashion
  • Optimize funding and exit
  • Oversee value at-risk under various scenarios
  • Track and report performance




To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and experience:

  • Bachelors degree required with a degree focused in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related field of study
  • Minimum of 10 + years experience in fixed income investments, preferably as a portfolio manager or related role or 2+ years of secondary marketing experience relating to reverse mortgage loans.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role required. 
  • MBA preferred
  • CFA preferred
  • Experience in analyzing and trading securitization products
  • Exposure to MBS derivatives and Mortgage Servicing Rights preferred
  • Strong presentation and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to present information to senior leadership

Training / Licensing Requirements:

  • Must pass the Company’s Background Screening process prior to beginning employment.  Additionally, as a condition of employment, you may be required to pass client-specific background check requirements or Federal/State licensing requirements, if applicable.
